At FurBabies Home Pet Care, we focus a lot on dogs with our posts and information. That’s because dogs are the beloved friends that tend to require the most care while you’re away, with dog walking and pet sitting to make sure that these pack animals are well cared for.

But we watch all types of pets, including cats, and what we’ve found is that cats need a lot more than most families give them credit for. Our cat sitting and cat boarding services are there to help make sure your feline friend has what they need to be happy.

The Maximum Time an Independent Cat Can Be Left Alone

One thing to remember is that not all cats are truly independent. Many cats really do crave the attention of their owners. If they’re alone for too long, they may become more stressed or worried, especially if there are no other cats in the house.

Even in the best case scenario, you will not want to leave your cats alone without at least a visit for 24 to 48 hours depending on their temperament. That is because:

    • Water Gets Dirty – Their water bowl will get dirty if the water is not replenished. In addition, there are concerns that cats could knock over their water and be left with nothing to drink.
    • Litter Boxes Get Full – Cats shouldn’t have a full litterbox for more than 24 to 48 hours depending on how much they go. Its litterbox should be emptied before it gets too unsanitary.
    • Injuries Need Attention – Cats do get hurt. Though most cats are great at staying safe, a small injury can become a much bigger injury if you’re not there to care for them.
    • Summer Months Are Hot – Here in Lake Mary, Longwood, Sanford, and much of this part of Florida can get quite hot. You’ll need to leave the AC on any time you go anyway. But ACs die, and you’ll need someone to check on your cat while you’re away.

And of course, some cats need medicine, some cats need flea care, and all cats still love someone to be there to pet them, pamper them, and make sure they’re okay.
