Dogs may at times seem like scavengers. But they actually have very sensitive stomachs. They can handle the occasional crumb or dropped cheerio, but in general it is not recommended that you feed your dog most people food. Veering from their normal diet can cause stomach upset, and some foods can make your dogs very sick.

That said, we ALL love our dogs, and sometimes when we see their little smiling faces looking up at us, pleading for just one bite of your meal, it is often hard to say no. So while you should still limit how much people food you give your dogs, there are some foods that are generally safe for your dog to eat.

What Foods Can Your Dog Eat Safely?

The following are 10 different foods that you can share with your dog in small doses, as they are generally well tolerated by most dogs (although you may want to check with your vet to make sure your specific pet doesn’t have any allergies):

    • Peanut Butter (without xylitol)
    • Oatmeal
    • Cheese
    • Boiled Chicken
    • Hard Boiled Eggs
    • Boneless Cooked Fish
    • Honey
    • Plain Popcorn
    • Cooked Meats
    • Some Fruits and Veggies (apples, carrots, green beans)

It is always a good idea to test your dog’s ability to stomach these foods by giving them only a small amount and then waiting to make sure they do not have a reaction. Like humans, dogs can be allergic to almost any type of food, especially if it is not a natural part of their diets. In addition, it is still a good practice to stick to dog foods, as these are formulated for dogs. My pup loves peanut butter and cantaloupe, but too much of it gives her an upset tummy.

If you really want to share with your special furry friend, these human foods are generally safe for most dogs, and your pet should love them as well. If you need suggestions or looking for a pet sitter in Lake Mary, Florida, or any of our surrounding areas, give us a call today.
